In a surprising political development, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state have publicly declared their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's re-election bid in 2027.

This decision was contained in a communique issued after a stakeholders' meeting held at the Government House in Osogbo on Tuesday.

The communique, made available to newsmen by the governor's spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, was signed by Governor Adeleke, ex-governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, PDP Chairman Sunday Bisi, Senator Lere Oyewumi, and 24 other party leaders.

The communique stated that the PDP in Osun State recognizes President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as "the son of Osun State" due to his ancestral roots, hence their adoption and endorsement of his re-election in 2027.

The meeting also addressed recent speculations about Governor Adeleke defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The party attributed Governor Adeleke's decision to remain in the PDP to the opposition faced from some APC members who were against the idea of his defection.

The communique objected to the "manner some APC members castigated the governor over the political development in the state on national television and social media," despite many PDP members not supporting the idea of defection into the APC.

Furthermore, the communique reaffirmed the party's adoption and endorsement of Governor Ademola Adeleke for re-election in the 2026 governorship election on the platform of the PDP.

It directed the PDP leadership in Osun State to disseminate the resolution to all party structures in the state and enjoined the governor to continue with governance and the implementation of his administration’s Five Point Agenda.
