Peter Obi, the Labour Party's presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, visited Daura, Katsina State, on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, to offer his condolences to the family of the late ex-President Muhammadu Buhari.

Buhari had passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in London and was laid to rest at his Daura residence on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.

While Obi did not attend the burial, which saw the presence of numerous dignitaries including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President Umaro Sissoco Embaló of Guinea Bissau, Aliko Dangote, former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, and incumbent VP Kashim Shettima, he made a separate visit to the family.

A video from Wednesday showed Obi engaging in a warm conversation with former Communications Minister Isa Pantami.
He subsequently met with Yusuf Buhari, the late former president's son, to convey his sympathies. Another photo captured Obi alongside former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, and others under a tent. This gathering was reportedly for the third-day prayers for the late former President.

Earlier, Peter Obi had faced criticism from former presidential aide Reno Omokri regarding his absence at Buhari's burial. Omokri, a known critic of Obi, took to his X account on Tuesday night to express his disapproval, suggesting that Nigeria needs a "truly Nigerian President" in 2027, not a "pretender whose true allegiance lies elsewhere."
