A good governance and accountability group, Transparency Watch, has described the appointment of former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdul’aziz Yari, as Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council as well deserved.
The group said Yari’s appointment was a recognition of his political experience, commitment and contributions to the affairs of the ruling party.
The Newsmen reports that the Presidency on Saturday formally constituted the APC Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections, naming Yari as Director-General, with President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima as Chairman and Vice Chairman respectively. Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, was appointed Secretary.
Reacting to the appointment in a statement issued by its Director of Public Affairs, Cliff Richards, on Wednesday, Transparency Watch said the former governor had demonstrated sufficient experience in governance and party politics to handle the responsibility.
The group said, “We are delighted to read of the appointment of Senator Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari, the senator representing Zamfara West in the National Assembly, as the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council.
“For us at Transparency Watch, who have been observing the activities of Yari both as governor and senator, the appointment does not come to us as a surprise.
“It is well deserved, considering the dedication, hard work and commitment that he has brought to bear in matters of governance and party politics. We congratulate Senator Yari on this.”
Transparency Watch also commended Tinubu for entrusting Yari with the leadership of the campaign structure, describing the appointment as an indication of the President’s confidence in the senator.
The group added, “We also congratulate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for recognising the good works of Senator Yari. The appointment is a clear expression of the implicit confidence that Mr President reposes on Senator Yari.”
The organisation further said Yari’s political experience and grassroots networks would be valuable to the APC as it prepares for the 2027 presidential election.
It said, “We are more particularly pleased with Yari’s appointment considering the fact that mischief makers worked hard to stop him but failed in the end.
“As a man with the needed wealth of experience, political exposure and immense financial capacity, we dare say that Yari is the best man for the job. He will bring vitality and dedication to bear on the job.”
The group urged members of Yari’s campaign team and other APC stakeholders to support him in delivering the mandate entrusted to him.
“Now that Senator Yari has been recognised for his sincerity of purpose in party affairs, we urge his team to rally round him so that together, they will deliver on their assignment,” it stated.
Yari, who served as Zamfara governor for two terms, is currently the senator representing Zamfara West Senatorial District. His emergence as campaign DG comes as the APC intensifies preparations for the 2027 presidential election and seeks to mobilise support for Tinubu’s re-election.
The campaign council includes several senior APC figures, with Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni designated as deputy directors-general for the campaign’s southern and northern blocs.
Transparency Watch wished Yari success in his new assignment, urging him to use his experience and political network to strengthen the APC’s mobilisation efforts ahead of the election.
“We wish Yari well as he strives to take his party, the APC, to the next level of political participation and electoral victory,” the group said.
