Chris Brown Freed on £5M Bail in UK Assault Case, Faces Court in June.
American singer Chris Brown has been released on £5 million bail after being charged with assault in the UK. The 36-year-old artist, was not present in court, but a London judge ruled that he could remain free under strict conditions while awaiting trial.
Brown is accused of seriously injuring a man in a London nightclub in February 2023. According to the charges, the victim was hit multiple times with a bottle, then chased, punched, and kicked during the incident. The alleged assault happened at a venue in Hanover Square while Brown was touring the UK.
Police arrested him on May 13 at a luxury hotel in Manchester, where he had arrived by private jet.
The judge at Southwark Crown Court said Brown could continue his international tour, which starts June 8 in Amsterdam. However, if he fails to return to the UK for his scheduled concerts starting June 15 or for future court dates he risks losing the £5 million bail.
As part of his bail conditions, Brown must surrender his passport when not traveling, live at an approved address, avoid the nightclub where the incident took place, and have no contact with the alleged victim, Abraham Diah.
Brown and his co-defendant, 38-year-old American Omololu Akinlolu, are both charged with grievous bodily harm with intent. They are scheduled to appear in court again on June 20.
