According to the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), several Northern states are predicted to have above-normal rainfall in the coming days as the rainy season reaches its peak.
The states expected to experience a downpour are:
* Gombe
* Kano
* Bauchi
* Sokoto
* Zamfara
* Jigawa
* Katsina
* Yobe
* Borno
* Kebbi
NiMet has warned that this increased rainfall could lead to flash and riverine flooding due to higher soil moisture and rising river levels.
The agency advises flood-prone communities and emergency management agencies to be prepared for potential evacuations and to take risk mitigation measures.
In addition to the rainfall, NiMet predicts that temperatures will be relatively low in August, especially at night and in the morning.
The public is advised to dress warmly and boost their immunity with proper nutrition to prevent seasonal illnesses.
Conversely, NiMet forecasts slightly below-normal rainfall for parts of Taraba, southern Adamawa, and the Federal Capital Territory.
The Southwest is also expected to have a brief dry spell in early August before rainfall gradually recovers later in the month.
