LASIEC Assures Free, Fair, and Credible Local Government Elections in Lagos;

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) Chairman, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (Retd), has reaffirmed the commission's commitment to delivering free, fair, credible, inclusive, and peaceful local government elections today, July 12, 2025. She stated that all necessary machinery and measures have been put in place to ensure a hitch-free voting exercise and guarantee the integrity of the process.

Key Details for the Election:

 1. Contested Positions: Lagosians will vote for 57 Chairmanship, 57 Vice Chairmanship, and 376 Councillorship positions.
 2. Polling Units: Elections will be held in all 13,325 polling units across the state.

 3.  Voter Statistics:
  *Total registered voters: 7,060,195
   * PVCs collected: 6,214,970
   * PVCs uncollected: 845,225
 4.  Political Parties: 19 registered political parties, with 15 participating in the elections.

 5. Voting Hours: Voting starts at 8 am and ends at 3 pm. Those in the queue by 3 pm will be attended to.

 6. Security: Adequate security will be provided, with the Nigeria Police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps as first responders, and the joint military patrol (OP MESSA) on standby.


Justice Okikiolu-Ighile emphasized that the commission is diligently following all constitutional mandates and electoral guidelines to ensure a seamless process and promote public confidence and trust. 

She urged electorate and residents to turn out and perform their civic duty, assuring them of a successful election devoid of violence, intimidation, or harassment.

 She also appealed to all contestants to uphold democratic values and conduct themselves with decorum, maturity, and respect for the rule of law.
