Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) manager, Luis Enrique, has been rushed to the hospital after breaking his collarbone in a horrific accident.
The club confirmed this in a statement issued on X, saying the 55-year-old Spaniard, who led PSG to the Champions League title last season, would undergo surgery after sustaining the injury on Friday.
“Following a cycling accident on Friday, Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique was treated by the emergency services and will undergo surgery for a fractured collarbone,” the club said in a statement. “The club expresses its full support and wishes him a swift recovery. Further updates will be shared in due course.”It's unclear at this moment in time if Enrique was knocked off his bike by a vehicle or if he came off by himself.
Enrique is a keen cyclist and competes in gruelling races whenever he can.In March 2023, he completed a gruelling EIGHT-DAY 700KM race in South Africa.
Enrique oversaw a historic treble for French champions Paris Saint-Germain last season.
He ended the club's long wait for Champions League glory last May with a record 5-0 win over Inter Milan in the Munich final.His troops, however, came up short against Chelsea in the final of the Club World Cup in July.
Meanwhile, PSG have made a perfect start to their domestic campaign but face some daunting fixtures rapidly racing over the horizon.
After beginning the defence of their Champions League title against Atalanta on Sep. 17, the French giants clash with arch-rivals Marseille in the season’s first edition of ‘Le Classique.’ There is also a trip to Enrique’s former club Barcelona scheduled for Oct. 1.
