Africa’s Biggest Film Awards Just Wrapped — Here’s Who Took Home the Gold!

The 11th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) lit up Lagos on Saturday, May 10, 2025, as Africa’s biggest stars came together to celebrate the best in film and television.

This year, Seven Doors, a Yoruba-language Netflix original, emerged as the night’s standout winner. Directed and produced by veteran filmmaker Femi Adebayo, the film picked up three major awards: Best Music Score, Best Lead Actor, and Best Lead Actress.

Femi Adebayo won Best Lead Actor for his compelling performance, while Chioma Chukwuka earned Best Lead Actress for her standout role. Composer Tolu Obanro took home Best Music/Score, rounding out the film’s impressive wins.

Seven Doors premiered on Netflix in December 2024 and quickly topped the charts as Nigeria’s most-watched film within 24 hours of its release. It stayed in the platform’s Top 10 for over three months and was nominated for nine AMVCA awards.

The event also featured the beloved Cultural Day, where stars showed off their traditional attire. Reality stars Liquorose and Prince Nelson Enwerem won Best Dressed Female and Male, each receiving a N1 million cash prize.

In recognition of lifetime achievements in African cinema, Nkem Owoh and Sani Mu’azu were honored with the Industry Merit Award. Kayode Kasum received the Trailblazer Award for his impressive work in directing.
