Suspended RCCG Pastor Idowu Iluyomade Opens New Church After Wife’s Lavish Party Controversy

Pastor Idowu Iluyomade, former senior pastor of the City of David Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has opened his own church following his suspension.

Iluyomade was suspended in June 2024 after his wife hosted a lavish 60th birthday party, just a week after the passing of Herbert Wigwe, a prominent RCCG member and former CEO of Access Bank. The extravagant celebration, which featured performances by singer Flavour and other entertainers, drew criticism from the church community.

During Wigwe’s funeral, neither Pastor Iluyomade nor his wife were invited, further fueling tensions. Following this, the RCCG governing council decided to suspend him.

Now, Iluyomade has launched a new church, The Family Fellowship, located at the Civic Center in Victoria Island, Lagos. A video circulating on social media shows him celebrating and dancing with members of his new congregation.
