Jonathan Will Return as President in 2027, Says Jerry Gana

Former Minister of Information and Orientation, Professor Jerry Gana, has said that ex-President Goodluck Jonathan will contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and return to Aso Rock.

Speaking to journalists after the PDP Niger State Congress in Minna on Saturday, Gana declared that Nigerians now wanted Jonathan back.

“In 2015, Jonathan said his ambition was not worth the blood of Nigerians. Since then, we’ve had two presidents. Nigerians have seen the difference, and they are asking us to bring back our friend, Jonathan,” Gana said.

“I can confirm that he will contest in 2027 as the PDP candidate. We must be ready to vote him back as President,” he added.

Gana described the PDP as a grassroots and democratic party, saying it remained popular because of its people-focused programmes. He dismissed talk of crisis in the party, insisting that internal disagreements had been resolved.

“When there was a near crisis, the founding fathers convened a consultative conference and addressed the issues. We are now fully prepared for 2027,” he noted.

At the congress, Alhaji Aliyu Mohammed Halidu emerged as the new state chairman of the PDP with 1,289 votes, defeating Alhaji Yahaya Abdullahi (Ability), who got 1,269 votes.

Other winners included Alhaji Khadi Kuta (Secretary, unopposed) and Mrs Salome Ndakosu, who became Woman Leader with 1,373 votes against Ramotu Jibrin’s 590.

In his acceptance speech, Halidu called for unity, urging members to “join hands to ensure the return of a people-oriented government in 2027.”
