President Bola Tinubu has sent condolences to Wilfred Ndidi, captain of the Super Eagles, following the passing of his father, Sunday Ndidi.

Sunday Ndidi reportedly died in a road accident on Tuesday in Umunede, near Agbor, Delta State.

In a condolence message, President Tinubu said he was deeply saddened by the tragic loss, noting that the late Sunday Ndidi played a significant role in shaping his son’s values and career.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic death of Sunday Ndidi. I share in the grief of his family, friends, and associates, particularly Wilfred Ndidi, who shared a strong bond with his father as a mentor and guide in his remarkable journey as an exceptional footballer,” the President said.

President Tinubu further remarked that the late Ndidi’s modest background, integrity, and sense of responsibility left a lasting impression on those who knew him and those who looked up to him for inspiration.

The President prayed for divine comfort for the Ndidi family and asked God Almighty to grant eternal rest to the departed’s soul.

Wilfred Ndidi is a Nigerian international footballer who currently plays professionally in Türkiye.

Ndidi debuted for Nigeria’s Super Eagles in 2015 and has over 65 caps.

He captained the team to third place at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and featured in the 2018 World Cup and multiple AFCONs.
