IPOB Rejects Tinubu’s Independence Day Claims, Reaffirms Peaceful Struggle

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has rejected comments made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his Independence Day speech, insisting that the group is committed to nonviolence and self-determination.

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Comrade Emma Powerful, IPOB stressed that it does not engage in terrorism, pointing to a 2017 ruling by the Federal High Court in Abuja which stated that the organization is not a terrorist group.

The movement further called on the Federal Government to respect court processes regarding the detention of its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. It maintained that its struggle for Biafra’s independence would continue to follow lawful and peaceful channels.

IPOB also urged Nigerians to embrace unity, dialogue, and respect for the rule of law as the country marked its 65th Independence anniversary.
