Japanese Man Sets New World Record for 100m on All Fours

A 22-year-old Japanese athlete has stunned the sporting world by setting a new world record for running 100 metres on all fours.

Ryusei Yonee clocked an astonishing 14.55 seconds, smashing the previous record of 15.66 seconds set by Collin McClure of the United States in 2022. The unusual event has been popular in Japan for nearly two decades, with the first record set in 2008 by Kenichi Ito at 18.58 seconds.

Yonee’s journey began in childhood. Fascinated by the speed and movement of wild animals, he would often climb trees and move on all fours, copying creatures like monkeys, cats, and dogs. A comment from his middle school teacher – that animals on four legs run faster , pushed him to take his passion seriously.

To perfect his technique, Yonee closely studied animal movements and trained under sports experts and doctors. He first practiced on sand for strength before switching to running tracks, which improved his speed and form.

Speaking after his achievement, Yonee credited not only his training but also the encouragement of supporters:

“I feel that competitive sport is not just for the athletes, but also for everyone who is at the venue,” he said.

Now a world record holder, Yonee says he isn’t stopping here. He plans to keep training harder, with hopes of promoting “all-four sports” and inspiring more people to explore the limits of human movement.
