The Abia State Government has confirmed its first case of monkeypox, with one positive case out of 13 suspected cases. The case was reported in Isialangwa, and the government has swiftly responded by setting up treatment centers, including the Abia State University Teaching Hospital.

The government has also established a steering committee on infectious diseases, which is working in collaboration with the Federal Government's "One-Health" policy. This synergy aims to strengthen facilities, enhance surveillance, and ensure a coordinated response to the outbreak.

Citizens are urged to take precautions to prevent the spread of monkeypox. This includes maintaining good hygiene, reducing contact with animals, and avoiding people with suspected cases. Fortunately, no deaths have been recorded so far, and the government is working diligently to contain the outbreak and ensure public safety.
