World Hepatitis Day, a day observed on the 28th day of July,on this day, awareness of viral hepatitis is made across the world.
This has been held since 2010.
Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver that causes severe liver disease and cancer.Viral hepatitis affects more than 300 million people worldwide and leads to more than 1 million deaths each year.
The theme of the world hepatitis day 2024 is " It's time for action".
The date, 28 July was chosen because it is the birthday of Nobel-prize winning scientist, Dr Baruch Blumberg. He discovered hepatitis B virus (HBV) and developed a diagnostic test and vaccine for the virus.
World hepatitis day is a day to create awareness of the sickness, causes and prevention.
Now is the time to prioritize testing, treatment and vaccination to realize a hepatitis-free world.
This day serves as a chance to step up national and international efforts to enhance its prevention, early diagnosis and effective methods of treatment for hepatitis.
