Plot twist: The real Oscar champs were animated.
For decades,a cat and mouse won more Oscars than one of the most famous actors in the world — Leonardo DiCaprio!
Yep. The classic cartoon duo Tom & Jerry racked up 7 Academy Awards for Best Animated Short Film between 1943 and 1953.
Meanwhile, Leo, despite being in some of the most iconic movies ever (like Titanic, Inception, and The Revenant), didn’t win any Oscars for a long time.
People joked that the Oscars just didn’t like him.
It became such a big deal that when he finally won in 2016, the internet exploded in celebration.
(He won for his role in The Revenant, by the way.)
So for over 70 years, a cartoon cat chasing a mouse outperformed one of Hollywood’s biggest stars in Oscar wins!
