“All vibes, no values: Spyro calls out moral decay in today’s music industry.”
Nigerian singer Oludipe David, popularly known as Spyro, says music has lost its moral backbone, and this shift is fueling the growing moral decline in society.
Speaking on the Adesope Live show, the “Who’s Your Guy” crooner lamented that today’s artists focus mainly on vibes and profit, abandoning the meaningful messages that once defined Nigerian music.
“In the past, artists passed powerful messages, regardless of genre. Now it’s all just vibes,” he said. “Music has lost its intrinsic value. Back then, you’d get goosebumps listening to a song. Vibes are okay, but how do we infuse real messages and values into them?”
Spyro argued that the societal decadence seen today is partly linked to this shift, stressing that many artists now prioritize money over impact. “A lot of us are just in the business for money, not to make a difference,” he added.
Has Nigerian music truly lost its message, or is it simply evolving?
