Naija Music Shakes the Globe: Over ₦58 Billion Earned on Spotify in 2024

Nigerian music reached a historic financial milestone in 2024, with royalties on Spotify exceeding ₦58 billion more than double the earnings of 2023 and five times that of 2022. Spotify’s 2024 Loud & Clear report reveals that Nigerian artists are not only attracting huge global audiences but also earning more than ever before.

More than 1,900 Nigerian artists were added to Spotify’s editorial playlists—a 33% increase from 2023 and first-time listeners discovered these artists over 1 billion times last year. A significant part of these earnings came from listeners outside Nigeria, highlighting the growing global appeal of Nigerian music.

The report also shows that more Nigerian artists are hitting the ₦10 million mark in royalties, with numbers more than doubling from 2023 and tripling from 2022. This growth reflects the creative talent and dynamic energy in Nigeria’s music scene. Global listeners have spent over 1.1 million hours streaming Nigerian music, and around 250 million playlists feature Nigerian artists. With local consumption growing by 206% year-over-year and a 782% increase over the past three years, the success of Nigerian music on Spotify is a clear sign of its rising influence worldwide.
