Olubadan Ladoja Bows Out of Politics, Promises to Promote Justice
The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, has announced his permanent retirement from politics, saying his role as a traditional ruler now defines his service to the people.
The former Oyo State governor made the declaration on Tuesday while hosting former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Senate President Iyorcha Ayu, and other dignitaries at his palace in Ibadan.
Oba Ladoja told his visitors that his ascension to the throne marked the end of his political career. “I am no more one of you. I am not a politician anymore. Welcome to my house,” he said. “Now that I am the Olubadan, I am no more interested in anything else apart from the Olubadan.”
Reflecting on his political past, the monarch recalled his journey with Atiku and other leaders, noting their shared history in the Social Democratic Party (SDP), time spent in exile, and later activities in the PDP. He also remembered forming the Accord Party, which became popular in Oyo State.
Speaking on his vision as a monarch, Oba Ladoja said he would focus on promoting justice and fairness, which he described as the duty of all leaders. “Religious leaders often remind us that what leaders owe their people is justice and fairness. I will serve Ibadan, Oyo State, Africa, and the world at large. I will depend on your support and advice,” he stated.
The courtesy visit by Atiku, El-Rufai, Ayu, and others was to pay homage to the Olubadan, who pledged to use his reign to unite and develop Ibadanland and beyond.
