Twenty medical students were kidnapped in Benue State while traveling to Enugu State for a program. The students were ambushed by gunmen in the Otukpo Local Government area. The kidnapping incident occurred on Thursday evening around 5:30 pm.

The kidnappers demanded a ransom of ₦50 million from the victims' families. This led to widespread condemnation of the rising rate of kidnapping in the country. Many Nigerians expressed their concern and outrage over the incident.

A rescue operation was coordinated by the office of the National Security Adviser. Security agencies, including the police, DSS, and military personnel, were involved in the operation. The Benue State government also provided support for the rescue effort.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, condemned the kidnapping and ordered the rescue of the victims. He described the abduction as "truly appalling, callous, and unacceptable".

The rescue operation was successful, and the students have regained their freedom. Although details of the rescue operation are still sketchy, the release of the students brings relief to their families and the wider community. The incident highlights the need for continued efforts to address the issue of kidnapping in the country.
