CharlyBoy’s Bold Memoir “999” to Unveil a Life of Rebellion, Truth, and Healing

Veteran entertainer and social activist Charles Oputa, widely known as CharlyBoy, is preparing to launch his much-anticipated memoir titled “999”. The memoir promises to reveal an honest and bold account of his extraordinary life journey.

CharlyBoy shared the news on his Instagram page, describing the book as more than a biography — calling it a “battleground” filled with the raw and real experiences that have shaped him. He explained that “999” is an angelic number symbolizing new beginnings and serves as a warning that readers will encounter his unapologetic truth.

The memoir will cover the many sides of CharlyBoy’s life — the good, the bad, and the ugly. He reveals battles fought, personal rebellions including disowning his parents, four marriages before age 36, encounters with danger, and spiritual explorations. Known for his defiant personality, CharlyBoy has spent over four decades challenging Nigeria’s social and political hypocrisies through his work and activism.

At 70 years old, and having recently survived prostate surgery, he also uses the book to open up about his health struggles, including prostate disease and erectile dysfunction. By sharing these experiences, CharlyBoy hopes to inspire healing and encourage openness about men’s health and wellness.

He calls “999” a challenge, a confession, and a revolution — a truthful reflection of his life. “It’s time we stop pretending and start living fully,” he writes.

Charles Oputa was born on June 19, 1950, and is the son of the late Justice Chukwudifu Oputa, a respected former Supreme Court Justice. Besides being a singer-songwriter and television personality, he is known for his unique lifestyle and outspoken political views. CharlyBoy hosted the popular “The Charly Boy Show,” served as a judge on “Nigeria Idol,” and led the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN).

He has been married for over 40 years to Diane, an African-American singer and former fashion designer, and has children from previous relationships.
