Governor Diri Kicks Off 5th Anniversary with Road Inauguration, Free Medical Outreach

Yenagoa, Bayelsa State — Governor Douye Diri has marked his fifth anniversary in office with the inauguration of Road 24, Okaka, Yenagoa, and the launch of a statewide free medical outreach.

Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State, who performed the road inauguration, praised Diri’s leadership and his commitment to infrastructure development. Otu, who also serves as Vice Chairman of the South-South Governors Forum, commended Diri’s prudent management of state funds, noting that the quality of the road reflects effective use of federal allocations.

He described Diri as a bold and visionary leader, lauding him for completing projects inherited from past administrations—a move he called essential for governance continuity. Otu also expressed confidence in Diri’s efforts to achieve 24-hour power supply for Bayelsa and urged residents to support the administration’s development drive.

Speaking at the event, Governor Diri emphasized that his administration’s investments in infrastructure and social services were reshaping Yenagoa and the entire state.

“The inauguration of road projects and other key infrastructure is a milestone in our five-year journey. The face of Bayelsa’s capital is changing for the better,” Diri stated.

He also appreciated traditional rulers, including the Obenibe-Epie, King Malla Sasime, and local communities, for their peaceful cooperation, which enabled smooth project execution.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, Diri flagged off a free medical outreach in Ikarama community, Yenagoa LGA, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to quality healthcare.

“This initiative has been a tradition in our administration because good health is the foundation of prosperity,” he said.

Diri revealed that the healthcare facility used for the outreach was originally built in 1998 by Agip (now Oando) as part of its corporate social responsibility.

With a series of infrastructure projects and social programs lined up, Governor Diri’s administration continues to push for Bayelsa’s transformation and sustainable development.
