Cher Reportedly Planning Wedding to 39-Year-Old Partner as She Approaches 80
Cher, one of the most recognizable figures in pop culture, is reportedly preparing for a milestone celebration unlike any other, a wedding on her 80th birthday. The legendary singer and actress, whose career has shaped music, film, and fashion for over seven decades, is said to be ready to officially tie the knot with her boyfriend, music executive Alexander “AE” Edwards, who is 40 years younger.
Cher and Edwards first met at Paris Fashion Week in 2022, a moment that sparked a relationship many found unexpected but that the pair have fiercely embraced. Since becoming public that November, their romance has attracted widespread attention and, at times, heavy criticism from social media users who questioned the vast age difference.
But Cher has consistently rejected the noise. Known for her bold confidence both on and off stage, she has repeatedly reminded critics that love — like art and music, doesn’t follow rules.
“Love doesn’t know math,” she replied to an Instagram critic earlier in their relationship.
And in a recent conversation with Gayle King on CBS Mornings, the singer doubled down.
“I may be getting older, but my spirit is still young. I just love him,” Cher said, adding that Edwards is “beautiful,” “talented,” and a joy to be around. She also spoke warmly about her time with Edwards’ young son, describing him as “smart,” “funny,” and “a delight.”
Reports indicate Cher views her 80th birthday in May as the perfect moment to take the next big step. A source told The Mirror that Cher and Edwards are “ready to commit to each other,” and that the icon “doesn’t give a hoot” about the criticism over their 40-year age gap.
“She is determined to walk down the aisle with him,” the source said. “She sees her upcoming 80th birthday as the perfect time to seal the deal.”
If confirmed, the wedding would mark Cher’s third marriage, following her unions with Sonny Bono (1964–1975) and Gregg Allman (1975–1979).
Alongside personal milestones, Cher may soon be sharing more of her life story with the world. She is reportedly in advanced talks with Netflix to produce a seven-part documentary series titled Sharing Her Story. The project is said to be valued at £13 million (about $17 million) and would coincide with the release of the second part of her memoir.
The first installment, Cher: The Memoir, published in November 2024, detailed significant and painful moments from her past, including her tumultuous marriage to the late Sonny Bono. In the book, Cher alleged that Bono sometimes “manhandled” her and at one point “seriously thought about” harming her. She also described long-standing issues around control, emotional strain, and infidelity.
“Stardom made Sonny a huge womanizer,” she revealed in earlier interviews, adding that she later discovered he was unfaithful with multiple women during their marriage. Despite their professional chemistry and television success including The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour, Cher described feeling trapped. “He didn’t want me to grow up or have any freedom,” she once told Parade.
Cher’s ability to reinvent herself has made her one of the most enduring performers of all time. From chart-topping hits and Oscar-winning acting roles to fashion icon status and a lifelong influence on pop culture, she has repeatedly shown that age does not dictate ambition.
As fans await confirmation of her wedding plans and potential Netflix series, one thing is clear: Cher continues to live boldly, unapologetically, and entirely on her own terms.
If the wedding takes place on her 80th birthday, it will not simply be a celebration of love. It will be a celebration of a woman who has never stopped evolving, surprising, and inspiring audiences around the world.
