Semi Ajayi Set for Hull City Switch as West Brom Exit Confirmed

Nigeria international Semi Ajayi is poised to join Hull City, following confirmation that he will depart West Bromwich Albion at the end of June when his contract officially expires. The 31-year-old centre-back ends a six-year spell at The Hawthorns, having made 177 appearances and scored 13 goals since joining from Rotherham United in 2019.

Despite a hamstring injury limiting him to just 15 appearances during the 2024–25 season, Ajayi remains a sought-after defender thanks to his Championship experience, leadership qualities, and international pedigree with Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

Sources indicate that negotiations between Ajayi’s representatives and Hull City, managed by newly appointed Sergej Jakirović, are at an advanced stage. Jakirović is reportedly keen on making Ajayi a core part of his defensive rebuild as the Tigers aim to bounce back from a difficult campaign.

Hull City narrowly avoided relegation last season, finishing 21st with 49 points, surviving on goal difference over Luton Town. Strengthening the defence is a top priority, and Ajayi’s Championship know-how and international experience make him a valuable addition.

Career Highlights

West Brom (2019–2025): 177 apps, 13 goals

Rotherham United (2017–2019): Emerged as a dominant defensive force

Nigeria National Team: 35 caps, participated in AFCON 2021 and AFCON 2023

Ajayi’s move is expected to be announced officially once the transfer window opens in July. If completed, it would mark a fresh chapter in his career and potentially boost Hull’s ambitions to climb back up the table in the 2025–26 Championship season.
