Chinese Scientists Develop Bone Glue That Heals Fractures in Just 3 Minutes

Chinese researchers have created a groundbreaking medical adhesive, nicknamed “Bone-02”, that can repair broken bones in only three minutes with just one injection.

The innovation, reported by the Global Times, could transform how doctors treat fractures that normally take months to heal and often require surgery with metal plates and screws.

Dr. Lin Xianfeng, associate chief orthopedic surgeon at Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital in Hangzhou, said the glue works even in blood-rich environments, quickly bonding broken bone fragments with precision.

In one case, a patient with a wrist fracture received a single injection through a small 3 cm incision. The bone healed within minutes, avoiding the need for invasive surgery. A follow-up after three months confirmed full recovery with no complications.

Researchers revealed that the glue’s design was inspired by oysters, which naturally produce an adhesive strong enough to stick to wet, salty, and moving surfaces underwater. Similarly, “Bone-02” creates powerful bonds, strong enough to withstand over 400 pounds of force.

Unlike metal implants that require a second surgery for removal, “Bone-02” is biodegradable and gets absorbed by the body as the bone heals. Early trials also suggest it reduces the risk of infections compared to traditional surgical methods.

Scientists believe this breakthrough could revolutionize orthopedic treatments, offering patients faster recovery, less pain, and fewer surgical complications.
