The Nigerian National Assembly has suspended all legislative activities until Tuesday, July 22, 2025, following the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Buhari, who passed away in London, United Kingdom, on Sunday at the age of 82, served as Nigeria's Head of State from 1983 to 1985 and as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023.

The suspension was announced in a statement by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, who stated that the decision was made in honor of the late president's legacy and service to the nation.

The leadership of both the Senate and the House of Representatives extended their condolences to the Nigerian government and people, Katsina State, and the Buhari family.
Lawmakers have been advised to adjust their schedules to participate in the burial activities.

Buhari is remembered for his commitment to Nigeria’s unity and his integrity.
