Senator Monday Okpebholo is being sworn in today as the new governor of Edo State. A rehearsal was held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin ahead of today's inauguration.
The outgoing governor, Godwin Obaseki, claimed he wasn't invited to the inauguration. However, Okpebholo's camp called this claim "laughable" and "self-indicting".
The APC described Obaseki's claim as "laughable" and "self-indicting". Okpebholo also accused Obaseki of frustrating a peaceful transition of power.
The Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, plan to challenge the election result in court. As the handover to the new government approaches, the transition committees continue to create tension in the state.
Okpebholo's camp accused Obaseki of trying to frustrate the inauguration. They found his claims of not being invited to be "generously laughable and self-indicting".
The accusations and counter-accusations between the two camps have been ongoing since the September 21 election won by Okpebholo.
