The Senate has initiated an investigation into the recent demolitions in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). A committee has been set up to examine the issue and determine the circumstances surrounding the demolitions.
The committee is expected to invite FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to provide explanations for the demolitions. The move follows a motion raised by Senator Ireti Kingibe of the FCT Senatorial District, who condemned the illegal destruction of structures.
Senator Kingibe called for an immediate halt to further demolitions, citing the devastating impact on residents who have lost their homes. The Senate's intervention aims to address the concerns of affected residents and ensure that the rights of citizens are protected.
In a related development, the Senate has also summoned the Managing Director of Julius Berger Nigeria PLC. The company is accused of failing to provide updates on the Odukpani-Itu Highway project, despite receiving over ₦18 billion in public funds.
