The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of conducting a "witch-hunt" after the detention of former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal.

Tambuwal, who now serves as a senator, was reportedly held by the EFCC over allegations of illegal withdrawals amounting to over N189 billion during his tenure as governor.

According to reports, Tambuwal was invited to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja and was questioned regarding alleged fraudulent cash withdrawals that violated the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

The ADC, in a statement, claimed the EFCC's actions were politically motivated and part of a broader effort to intimidate opposition leaders. The party alleged that the anti-graft agency is acting as a political tool for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and is eroding public trust in the institution.

The EFCC has not officially commented on the specifics of the case, with its spokesperson declining to provide details on the ongoing investigation.
