The Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, urged Nigerians to present proof of the terrorism allegations made against Shehu Buba, the lawmaker representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, if any exists.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Muhammed Ishaq, made the call in a statement on Friday.

The party emphasized the importance of establishing the veracity of the allegations against the lawmaker.

As stated by the party, it is convinced that there is a campaign to damage the senator’s image with an image constructed from falsehoods and unchecked mischief.

It quoted Section 127(c) of the Electoral Act as specifying a penalty for the publication of false statements intended to prejudice a candidate’s electoral chances.

These lies must stop. Those who have evidence of any criminal activity against him should provide such evidence to the authorities who should treat them as the law provides.

“We believe his rivals and detractors feel threatened by the spread and depth of his popularity, and have now resorted to peddling outrageous and libelous falsehoods against him,” the party said.

The statement was issued five days after Buba denied new allegations tying him to banditry describing viral videos and claims circulating on social media as part of what he called a sustained campaign of disinformation and character assassination.
