The national anthem "Nigeria, we hail thee" is the former National anthem of Nigeria used from  independence 1960 to 1978.

This National anthem has been adopted again.
The new Nigeria national anthem is "Nigeria, We Hail Thee", has officially been reinstated on May 29, 2024, in replacement of the previous anthem, "Arise, O Compatriots".

The national anthem's lyrics were written by Lillian Jean Williams, a British expatriate who lived in Nigeria when it achieved independence. While Frances Berda composed the music.

President Bola Tinubu has signed the National Anthem Bill 2024 into law, reinstating Nigeria’s original anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee.” The National pledge remains the same and it's mandatory to be said after the National anthem of Nigeria.

Nigeria national anthem "Nigeria, we hail thee " lyrics

Nigeria, we hail thee,

Our own dear native land,

Though tribe and tongue may differ,

In brotherhood, we stand,

Nigerians all, and proud to serve

Our sovereign Motherland.

Our flag shall be a symbol

That truth and justice reign,

In peace or battle honour’d,

And this we count as gain,

To hand on to our children

A banner without stain.

O God of all creation,

Grant this our one request,

Help us to build a nation

Where no man is oppressed,

And so with peace and plenty

Nigeria may be blessed.
