Details of Some major Headlines For Today;

1. 🇬🇼 Guinea-Bissau Political Situation
The country is currently in a state of political crisis following a military coup on November 26, which removed President Umaro Sissoco Embaló.

2. ECOWAS Action: The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has suspended Guinea-Bissau from all its decision-making bodies and strongly condemned the coup. They have demanded the immediate restoration of constitutional order and the unconditional release of all detained civilian leaders.

ECOWAS Mediation: The regional bloc has established a high-level Mediation Mission, led by the President of Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio, to engage with the coup leaders.

Election Results: ECOWAS has demanded that the coup leaders allow the National Electoral Commission to proceed without delay with the declaration of the results of the November 23 elections.

Nigeria's Role: Nigeria condemned the coup, and former President Goodluck Jonathan was evacuated by a special flight.

Military's Stance: The military appointed a general to lead the country for one year, suspended the electoral process, and briefly closed borders (which were later reopened). They cited uncovering a plan involving "drug lords" to alter the constitutional order.

3. 🏫 Nigeria's Safe Schools Project (SSP)
The Safe Schools Initiative (SSI), also referred to as the Safe Schools Project (SSP), was developed to provide coordinated security strategies, early-warning systems, community-based surveillance, and rapid-response mechanisms for school environments, especially following mass abductions.

Why it Stalled: The project is stalled in 30 states primarily due to lack of funding and inconsistent state contributions.
It is backed by a  financing plan (2023–2026) involving federal, state, and donor contributions, but only a fraction has been released.

Many states have failed to fund the initiative, equip offices, or establish the required command and control centers for surveillance.

While some states have donated coordination centers, they often remain unfurnished and unactivated.

Consequence: The failure to implement the initiative has left schools exposed, contributing to a rise in abductions, which in turn discourages enrollment and increases the number of out-of-school children, particularly in the North.

4. 💰 NNPCL Spending on Pipeline Security
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) reported a staggering expenditure of \ for pipeline protection and other energy security operations on behalf of the Federation in the 2024 financial year.

The Debt: This figure represents a debt owed by the Federation to the NNPCL, nearly doubling the recorded in 2023.

 Breakdown:
A significant portion was for safeguarding critical oil and gas infrastructure, including pipeline surveillance, repairs, and anti-crude oil theft operations was for "energy-security costs" aimed at stabilising petrol prices when the difference between the exchange rate and the ex-coastal price of refined petrol widened (often referred to as 'under-recovery').

Reaction: Energy analysts have reacted with concern, describing the expenditure as "outrageous" and demanding a full-scale forensic audit, especially considering persistent leakages, low crude production, and systemic opacity.

5. 🗳️ El-Rufai Joins ADC to Unseat Kaduna Governor
The headline suggests former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and vowed to unseat the current governor.

Context: El-Rufai was previously a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The search results, however, indicate he may have been associated with other parties or has had recent tensions in Kaduna:

A previous search result mentioned his resignation from the APC and joining the Social Democratic Party (SDP) (dated March 2025).

Other results show the Kaduna State Police summoning El-Rufai and ADC leaders over alleged conspiracy and incitement (dated September 2025), and El-Rufai alleging the Kaduna government was behind the disruption of an ADC event.

Significance: This move indicates a major political realignment and potential challenge to the incumbent APC in Kaduna State, Uba Sani.

6. 🛡️ Tinubu Approves Team for US-Nigeria Security Group
President Bola Tinubu has approved the constitution of Nigeria's delegation to the newly established US–Nigeria Joint Working Group to deepen collaboration on security.

Goal: The group will serve as the central coordination platform for implementing security agreements, focusing on counterterrorism, intelligence sharing, defence modernisation, and border security.

Head of Delegation: The Nigerian side is to be led by the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.

Key Members: The team is a high-calibre multi-agency team and includes:
   1. Minister of Foreign Affairs (Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar)
   2. Minister of Defence (Mohammed Abubakar)
   3. Minister of Interior (Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo)
   4.  Chief of Defence Staff (Gen. Olufemi Oluyede)
   5.  Inspector-General of Police (Kayode Egbetokun)

Purpose: The initiative is aimed at tackling security challenges, including insurgency, and is expected to improve intelligence fusion, enhance training, and provide equipment support for Nigeria's armed forces.
