United Target Crystal Palace’s Mateta Amid Striker Search

Manchester United are reportedly keeping a close watch on Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta as they look to strengthen their attack this summer.

With Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres emerging as United’s top target, reports suggest the Swedish forward is keen on a move to a Champions League club—a potential setback for United, who currently sit outside the Premier League’s top four.

As a result, United are expanding their search, with scouts attending Palace’s FA Cup tie against Millwall, where Mateta was forced off after a nasty head injury that required 25 stitches. The 27-year-old Frenchman has been in fine form, scoring eight goals in his last eight league matches, including a brace at Old Trafford last month.

Mateta is reportedly open to a move, with United’s scouting team impressed by his mobility and suitability for Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 system. While Gyökeres remains the priority, United could turn to Mateta as a realistic alternative to address their goal-scoring struggles.
