An explosion rocked the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, in the early hours of Saturday. The blast, suspected to have been caused by dynamite, caused significant damage to the building and destroyed property.
The explosion brought down the gate of the secretariat, and doors and windows were shattered. This is the second time the APC secretariat has been attacked this year, raising concerns about the safety and security of the political party's facilities.
The incident occurred just hours before the local government elections in Rivers State, which has raised tensions and concerns about the electoral process. The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission had announced that all sensitive materials had been distributed to the various local government areas, and the elections were expected to proceed as planned.
A viral video of the incident showed workers at the facilities assessing the extent of the damage. The police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, said she had not received a report on the incident but promised to revert. The APC has not made an official statement on the incident.
