Zamfara APC mourns as gunmen kill party chieftain in highway attack.

Gunmen suspected to be armed bandits have killed a senior All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Zamfara State, Umar Moriki, in a deadly attack along the Gusau–Tsafe highway.

Moriki was reportedly ambushed and shot dead on Saturday morning near Fegi village in the Tsafe Local Government Area while traveling from Gusau to Kaduna.

The Zamfara State APC chapter, led by Tukur Danfulani, confirmed the killing and described it as a devastating loss to both the party and the state. According to the party’s Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris, Moriki had just attended a stakeholders’ meeting hosted by the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, before embarking on the journey.

During his lifetime, Moriki held notable political roles, including Vice Chairman of Zurmi Local Government, Director-General of a state agency, and Special Adviser on Rural Electrification. He also contested the Zurmi/Shinkafi House of Representatives seat in the 2023 elections.

He died at the age of 62 and is survived by three wives and several children. The APC praised him as a loyal party member and a committed public servant who contributed significantly to his community.
