Bob-Manuel Udokwu and Lateef Adedimeji  Shares Thoughts on Idris Elba’s ‘Things Fall Apart’ Role”

Veteran Nollywood actor Bob-Manuel Udokwu shared his thoughts on Idris Elba playing the lead role of Okonkwo in the TV adaptation of Chinua Achebe's novel "Things Fall Apart". While speaking with Channels TV, Udokwu expressed no opposition to Elba's casting but emphasized that Nigeria boasts exceptional actors who could portray Okonkwo even better.

Udokwu believes Nigerian actors, familiar with the story's origin, would bring authenticity to the role. He welcomed the collaboration between Nollywood and international film industries as another step forward for Nollywood.

Udokwu's statement highlights the richness of Nigerian talent, encouraging opportunities for homegrown actors to shine in iconic roles.

While some still question of idris Elba’s suitability for the role, Nollywood star, Lateef Adedimeji defends the decision, citing the producers desire for international recognition. Adedimeji assures that Nollywood boasts talented actors capable of playing Okonkwo, suggesting the casting choice prioritizes global appeal over local talent. This fuels discussions on balancing authenticity and marketability in African representation on the global stage.

"Things Fall Apart" is the first installment of Achebe's esteemed African Trilogy. Previous adaptations include a film and miniseries starring Pete Edochie as Okonkwo. The upcoming series, produced by A24, has Idris Elba and Gina Carter as executive producers.
