There was pandemonium in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, on Thursday following reports that Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, collapsed in his office and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa.

It was gathered that the incident, which occurred around 1:30 pm, prompted swift medical intervention as aides and security personnel moved the deputy governor to the hospital’s emergency unit.

As of the time of writing this report, no official statement has been released, but sources close to the Bayelsa Government House hinted that the health scare may be linked to a cardiac-related issue.

A source familiar with the situation told Vanguard that, “He’s a workaholic; he should find time to rest.”

Senator Ewhrudjakpo is currently stabilised and receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital. Security operatives have cordoned off the facility, restricting access as a precaution.

Findings also revealed that several top Bayelsa government officials were spotted arriving at the hospital to check on the deputy governor’s condition.Efforts to reach the deputy governor’s media aide, Mr Doubara Atasi, proved unsuccessful as of press time.

However, a source within the hospital told Vanguard that Ewhrudjakpo is receiving the best possible medical attention and is in a stable condition.

Recall that in October, Ewhrudjakpo filed a suit at the Federal High Court, Abuja, to stop an alleged impeachment move by the Bayelsa State House of Assembly. Ewhrudjakpo, in the case marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2219/2025, claimed the plot stemmed from his refusal to defect from the PDP to the APC.
